The Latinx Experience is Expressed Through Album Cover Art in New Exhibition at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (January 28, 2018) – “Visual Clave: The Latino/a Experience through Album Cover Art: 1940-90” opens on February 2, 2019, at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. On view through April 21, 2019, the exhibition explores the evolution of Latin album cover art with a focus on the United States market.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (December 31, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Visual Magic: An Oregon Invitational,” from January 19 to May 12, 2019. A collaboration with the George D. Green Art Institute, the exhibition features recent work by forty-five artists who began their careers in Oregon during the 1960s and 70s. The public is invited to a free preview on Friday, January 18, from 7 to 8 p.m.
This Holiday Season, Bring the Outdoors Inside at a Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 26, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Bringing the Outdoors Inside” on Saturday, December 8, from noon to 3 p.m. on the University of Oregon campus. This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and will be inspired by the current exhibitions on view, including “Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Aesthetics, Materials.”

Celebrate the 37th Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration
EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 15, 2018) – This year’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration returns to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus on Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening. The free celebrations are open to the community and feature dancing, poetry readings, live music, traditional Mexican ofrendas, ceramics, prints, and paintings by artists in Mexico, and art activities for all ages.

This exhibition features three-dimensional aerial “cartographies” that are based in a particular city or region of the world and feature layers of cultural references and historical text.

The fifty-five works exemplify the innovative mixed-media techniques developed by the duo.
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 22, 2018) – Renowned contemporary Chinese artist Hung LIU (LIU Hung 刘虹) and Trillium Graphics master printer David Salgado have donated 55 works of art to the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art that exemplify the innovative mixed-media techniques they developed in which printed and painted elements are embedded in layers of resin to evocative, gestural effect.

Eugene, Oregon (June 6, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA) and University of Oregon (UO) Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Kreiger as the new Mellon Postdoctoral Scholar, the first joint position of the JSMA and UO Libraries. Kreiger’s position is funded by a grant awarded to the University of Oregon by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 23, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon will feature the latest exhibition of works made by Cuban artist Elsa Mora. “Paper Weight,” comprised of works painstakingly made solely of paper and glue, will be on view in the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Gallery from Wednesday, August 29, 2018, through Sunday, January 20, 2019.
