Ai Weiwei’s “Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads” on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 28, 2017) - The “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads” series is internationally-acclaimed artist Ai Weiwei’s reinterpretation of the twelve bronze animal heads representing the traditional Chinese zodiac that once adorned the famed fountain-clock of the Yuanming Yuan (Old Summer Palace), an imperial retreat outside Beijing. The work will be on view in the JSMA’s North Courtyard through June 24, 2018.

Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art focuses on Celebrations around the World

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 15, 2017) - The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Celebrations Around the World” on Saturday, December 9, from noon to 3 p.m. on the University of Oregon campus. This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and will be inspired by celebrations and artistic traditions from around the world.

“Art of the Athlete” exhibition returns to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art for its sixth year

EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 27, 2017) - The “Art of the Athlete” exhibition returns for the sixth year, featuring work created by University of Oregon student athletes participating in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and acrobatics & tumbling. The exhibition is on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, through February 8, 2018. The public is invited to a free reception on Wednesday, November 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Remarks and athlete appearances will be around 7 p.m.

A Season of Programs Accompany the Exhibition “Graphic Ideology: Cultural Revolution Propaganda from China”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 2, 2017) – From artist talks to gallery tours, a full season of programs accompany “Graphic Ideology: Cultural Revolution Propaganda from China,” on view in the Coeta and Donald Barker Galley at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus through December 31. All programs are free and open to the public. The exhibition, drawn from a private collection, features propaganda created before, during, and after China’s Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966-76), including brilliantly designed posters, paintings, books, and memorabilia.

A Season of Programs Accompany the Exhibition “The Barberini Tapestries: Woven Monuments of Baroque Rome” at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 13, 2017) – “The Barberini Tapestries: Woven Monuments of Baroque Rome,” an exhibition of rare 17th century Italian tapestries that once decorated St. Peter’s Basilica, will be on view beginning September 23, 2017 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus. A series of programs from lectures to concerts to student presentations compliment the only West Coast showing of the exhibition. All events are free and open to the public.

Science Becomes Art in Barbara MacCallum’s exhibition “Appropriating Science”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 8, 2017) – Barbara MacCallum’s “Appropriating Science” is on view in the Artist Project Space from September 23, 2017 to January 28, 2018. The Irish-born artist uses the scientific papers of her husband, Robert Johnson, a physicist professor at the University of Virginia, as well as casts of his body, to create beautiful, powerful, and provocative works of art.
