This Holiday Season, Bring the Outdoors Inside at a Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 26, 2018) –  The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Bringing the Outdoors Inside” on Saturday, December 8, from noon to 3 p.m. on the University of Oregon campus.  This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and will be inspired by the current exhibitions on view, including “Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Aesthetics, Materials.”

"We invite families to join us for a day of creating art, enjoying performances and exploring the museum's galleries,” say Hannah Bastian, JSMA Manager of Museum Education Programs. “This event will celebrate the outdoors and reflect upon our roles as stewards of the land.”

Art making activities include Bottle Cap Bugs with MECCA, watercolor landscapes, and terrarium biomes. Guests are also invited to practice Nature Calligraphy with the UO Confucius Institute. Parked on the north side of JSMA between the museum and Chapman Hall, will be Imagination International’s Artie the Art Bus, where families can create additional art activities.

Performances throughout the day include storytelling with the Springfield Public Library, a puppet performance by the JSMA Dragon Puppet Theatre, and a performance by Upstart Crow. A family-friendly museum tour is offered at 1:30 p.m.

Family Day: Bringing the Outdoors Inside is made possible by the supporters of Transforming Lives: The JSMA at 85 Gala.
