EUGENE, Ore. -- (June 26, 2018) – Sixty works exploring the complex story of plastic — from drawings and photographs to video installations and sculptures fabricated from found objects — will be featured in "Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Aesthetics, Materials," on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon from September 22 – December 30, 2018.
New Exhibition Highlights Contemporary British Artist Glenn Brown
EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 25, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon will showcase eight works by contemporary master Glenn Brown in a new exhibition “Transmutations/Glenn Brown: What’s Old is New Again.” On view in the MacKinnon Gallery of European Art through August 19, 2018, the exhitbion marks the first time the JSMA has collaborated closely with Masterworks lenders to showcase the work of a single artist.
Explore Art Using Five Senses at the Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 9, 2018) - The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Exploring Art Through the Senses” on Saturday, May 19, from noon to 3 p.m. This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and each activity will highlight one of the five senses.
Museum Roles in Challenging Time is the Focus of Four Talks at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 8, 2018) – This spring, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon will host a special series of lectures by museum directors titled “Museum Roles in Challenging Times.”
“The role of both academic and public museums changes in response to the needs of society,” says JSMA Executive Director Jill Hartz. “We’ve invited four museum directors to reflect on that role in terms of their own institutions and the field at large.”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 11, 2018) – Ai Weiwei, one of China’s most prolific and provocative contemporary artists, will be the subject of two public programs hosted by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon this spring. The programs are held in conjunction with Ai’s “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads” sculptures, which are on view in the JSMA’s North Courtyard through June 24, 2018.

Eugene, Ore. --- (March 8, 2018) --- The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, continues this year’s Schnitzer Cinema film series on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. with “Acts and Intermissions,” featuring a Skype Q&A with director Abigail Child. This documentary explores the resurgence of protest in the 21st century through a refracted observation of the life and works of anarchist revolutionary Emma Goldman. Schnitzer Cinema is programmed by Richard Herskowitz, JSMA curator of media arts. The program is free and includes refreshments.
MELLON GRANT AWARDED TO SUPPORT LIBRARY-MUSEUM COLLABORATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON

EUGENE, Ore. – (February 8, 2018) – Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Executive Director Jill Hartz will interview art collector Isaac Applbaum on Wednesday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. in the next Collectors’ Series program. Applbaum is an investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who sits at the nexus of global trade between the East and West. He is an advisor to business, philanthropy, and civic leaders in the U.S. and Israel. He holds a B.A. degree in Computer Science from Yeshiva University.

Eugene artist Keith Achepohl’s exhibition “Vision of Nature/Vessel of Beauty” opens at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (December 18, 2017) - The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus presents the exhibition “Keith Achepohl: Vision of Nature/Vessel of Beauty” from Jan. 20 through April 29, 2018. This extensive body of work in painting, drawing, and collage by the Eugene, Oregon-based artist Keith Achepohl was inspired by three weeks spent at the Morris Graves Foundation Artist Residency in 2011, followed by a second stay in 2016. The exhibition opens with a free reception on Friday, January 19, 6-8 p.m.
