In Conjunction with the UO Common Reading, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Opens “Between the World and Me: African American Artists Respond to Ta-Nehisi Coates”
EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 20, 2016) – “Between the World and Me: African American Artists Respond to Ta-Nehisi Coates” is now on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus. On view through March 7, 2017, this exhibition features contemporary Post-Black artists that explore what it means to be Black in the United States. The exhibition was planned to support and extend the University of Oregon’s Common Reading of Coates’s book “Between the World and Me.”
The exhibition will be celebrated at a reception on Friday, September 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 25, 2016) – “Splendor and Light: Highlights of Russian Art” is now on view in the McKenzie Gallery at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus. On view through April 16, 2017, this exhibition offers a fresh look at objects from the JSMA collection.
“Splendor and Light” was organized by Johanna G. Seasonwein, Ph.D., Senior Curator of Western Art, with the assistance of Anastasia Savenko-Moore, a 2015 Master’s graduate of the Department of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, and Heghine Hakobyan, Slavic Librarian.
Beat the Heat with Free Admission to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 18, 2016) – During the excessive heat advisory from the National Weather Service, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will offer free admission beginning Thursday, August 18 and ending Saturday, August 20, 2016. Open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and located at 1430 Johnson Lane on the University of Oregon campus, the JSMA provides a cool, climate-controlled environment.
Cheryl Hartup named Associate Curator of Academic Programs and Latin American Art at Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 11, 2016) – Following a national search, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Hartup as the museum’s associate curator of academic programs and Latin American art. Hartup is responsible for strengthening the museum’s teaching role and working with faculty and students across campus; building engagement among Latino constituents on and off campus; and developing collections and special exhibitions focusing on Latin American art.
Annual “Art in the Attic” Fundraiser for the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Returns to Oakway Center Heritage Courtyard
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 10, 2016) – “Art in the Attic,” an annual fundraiser for the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, returns to the Oakway Center Heritage Courtyard on Wednesday, August 24, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Art and décor from homes throughout the community will be on sale with all proceeds benefiting the JSMA’s enriching educational programs.

In this collaborative exhibition, on view through September 18, 2016, artists Victoria Suescum and Lee Michael Peterson explore elements of identifying as Latino/a within American culture.
University of Oregon Graduate Student Curates War Exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. -- (Mary 26, 2016) - The exhibition “The Face of War: Gabor Peterdi and his Contemporaries” will run from June 11 to October 9, 2016, at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon Campus.
Featuring prints from Hungarian-American printmaker Gabor Peterdi (1915–2001) and three of his contemporaries: American artists Kerr Eby (1890–1946), John Sloan (1871–1951) and Joseph Pennell (1857–1926), the exhibition explores the artistic representation of the anxieties, fears, and turmoil brought on from the two World Wars.
