Works by Bacon, Hirst, Rothko, and Rubens now on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 31, 2016) – Works by artists Francis Bacon, Damien Hirst, Mark Rothko, and Peter Paul Rubens and are on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, on the University of Oregon campus as part of the Masterworks on Loan program.

Francis Bacon’s 1953 work, “End of the Line,” is on view in the Focus Gallery through June 12, 2016. Noted as one of the most well-known artists to emerge from the Post-War era, Bacon’s self-taught work draws on inspiration from Surrealism, film, photography and works by the Old Masters, such as Rembrandt, Titian, and Velázquez.

“Relationship,” a Photography Exhibition by Zackary Drucker and Rhys Ernst Documents Private Moments of the Transgender Couple

On view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art from April 20 to June 26, 2016, the exhibition is part of the Queer Productions Series

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 24, 2016) – The photography series “Relationship” by artists Zackary Drucker and Rhys Ernst will be on view April 20 to June 26, 2016 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus. “Relationship” chronicles Drucker and Ernst's private moments, from 2008 to 2013, as a transgender couple, during which time Ernst transitioned from female to male and Drucker transitioned from male to female.

Schnitzer Cinema Continues its Queer Production Series with “Paris is Burning” and “Wildness”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 22, 2016) –Schnitzer Cinema, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s annual film series, continues its Queer Productions series with films directed by Jenny Livingston and Wu Tsang. On April 12, at 7 p.m., “Paris is Burning” will be shown at the Wayward Lamb located at 150 West Broadway, followed by “Wildness” on April 13, at 7 p.m. at the JSMA on the University of Oregon campus. Programmed by Richard Herskowitz, JSMA curator of media arts, with the help of Professor Quinn Miller, both films are free.

Portland-based curator Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson will give the inaugural talk of the David and Anne McCosh Memorial Visiting Lecturer Series

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 9, 2016) – Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson, the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum, will be presenting the inaugural program of the David and Anne McCosh Memorial Visiting Lecturer Series on Northwest Art on Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus.

Multimedia Exhibition “Call and Response” now on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 3, 2016) – The multimedia exhibition “Call and Response” is on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus from now until August 28, 2016. EUGENE, Ore. -- (February 12, 2016) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon announces a major gift to the museum’s collection from the Lanker family and the Brian Lanker Archive of the 75 photographs that comprise the series “I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America.”
