Art by National and International Contemporary Artists included in “The Human Touch” at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 25, 2014) – “The Human Touch: Selections from the RBC Wealth Management Collection” will be on display at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art from April 26 to September 14, 2014. The exhibition, drawn from the RBC Wealth Management Art Collection, features 40 major works by international contemporary artists, all of which explore creative interpretations of the human figure and celebrate people and diversity.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 21, 2014) – For the closing weekend of “Emancipating the Past: Kara Walker’s Tales of Slavery and Power,” the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art has special events with collector Jordan Schnitzer, Walidah Imarisha and free admission on Friday, April 4. The exhibition, which closes on April 6, 2014, explores Walker’s innovative approach to historical narrative and the complexities and ambiguities of racial representation in her work.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 17, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon looks at the work of two Oregon artists in “Contemporary Oregon Visions: Jo Hamilton and Irene Hardwicke Olivieri.” On view from April 1 to August 3, 2014, the exhibition presents two substantially different but equally innovative approaches to figurative art.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art presents “The Delicate World of Josefine Allmayer: Papercuts from the Permanent Collection”
On view in the MacKinnon Gallery, March 4 – May 25, 2014, this is the first time these works have been displayed together at the museum.
EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 3, 2014) – “The Delicate World of Josefine Allmayer: Papercuts from the Permanent Collection” will be on view in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s MacKinnon Gallery from March 4 to May 25, 2014. Displayed together on the at the JSMA for the first time, the exhibition features twenty-nine works of art expertly cut from tissue-thin papers with scissors.

Donated to the JSMA collection by three University of Oregon faculty members, the prints will be on view through April 27, 2014

Schnitzer Cinema screens James Blue’s Cannes prize-winning film “Les oliviers de la justice” (“Olive Trees of Justice”)
Part of the James Blue Tribute, the 1962 film will be screened on Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m.
EUGENE, Ore. -- (January 29, 2014) – Schnitzer Cinema, continuing the six-month James Blue Tribute, screens Blue’s 1962 neo-realist film, “Olive Trees of Justice,” on Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m. Cosponsored with the Cinema Pacific film festival, the screenings are free and include free popcorn and soda.
Interactive Installation at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Relies on Texts and Tweets from Audience
Kathy Marmor’s “The Messengers” is on view January 14-March 16 in the Artist Project Space
EUGENE, Ore. -- (January 8, 2014) – “The Messengers,” an interactive installation by Vermont-based artist Kathy Marmor, is on view January 14 – March 16, 2014 in the Artist Project Space at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. “The Messengers” relies on user content to create Twitter-influenced mash-ups, which are, displayed in dynamic LED lights. The random sentences that result depict abbreviated communication gone awry.
