Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art explores photography through “Portraits, People and Places"

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 25, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites children and families to explore the art of photography at a free family day, “Portraits, People and Places,” on Saturday, December 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free day of fun-filled art activities is sponsored by U.S. Bancorp Foundation.

Be Our Guest: Thanksgiving Weekend Open House at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Free admission November 30 – December 1, 2013.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 7, 2013) – Add an element of culture to this year’s festivities and explore the galleries at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus with free admission during the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Open Friday, November 29 - Sunday December 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the JSMA is located at 1430 Johnson Lane. The museum will close early on Wednesday, November 26 at 5 p.m. Free parking is available behind the museum for our guests.

Art, Music, and Poetry Combine for the Annual Día de los Muertos Celebrations at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

The popular event has been extended to four evenings in 2013

EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 10, 2013) – The annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration returns to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus for four days of activities, on Tuesday, October 29, Wednesday, October 30, Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening. The free celebrations are open to the community and feature dancing, poetry, music, and two special displays commemorating the 100th anniversary of José Guadalupe Posada’s death.

“Ave Maria: Marian Devotional Works from Eastern and Western Christendom” is on view through July 20, 2014

EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 2, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Ave Maria: Marian Devotional Works from Eastern and Western Christendom” a new exhibition in the McKenzie Gallery. This exhibition, on view through July 20, 2014, explores a variety of representations of Mary and iconic scenes from her life through narrative and symbolic works in the JSMA’s collection.

Art Created by University of Oregon Athletes is On View in “Art of the Athlete II”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 16, 2013) – Building on the 2012 collaboration with the John E. Jaqua Academic Center for Student Athletes and the UO Arts and Administration Program, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s “Art of the Athlete” exhibition returns for a second year. On view through February 9, 2014, this year’s show features work created by UO student athletes from football, soccer, men’s and women’s golf, track and field, cheerleading, and men’s and women’s basketball.

National Geographic’s “Greatest Photographs of the American West” opens at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art this fall

EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 30, 2013) – "National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West” opens at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon on Saturday, September 28. The exhibition, on view through Sunday, December 31, includes photographs by Sam Abell, Ansel Adams, William Albert Allard, Edward Curtis, David Alan Harvey, William Henry Jackson, Sarah Leen, and Joel Sartore, among many others.
