A new exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art explores the photography of Alberto Korda
Korda and the Revolutionary Image is on view through January 26, 2014
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 21, 2013) – ”Korda and the Revolutionary Image,” a new exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, features photographs of such historical figures as Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, taken by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda. The exhibition is on view in the JSMA’s Focus Gallery through January 26, 2014.
In honor of the 80th Anniversary, Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is Raising Funds for New Chinese Art Acquisition
Money raised supports the acquisition of Xiaoze Xie’s “Order (The Red Guards)“ for the permanent collection.
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 19, 2013) – In celebration of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s 80th anniversary, the museum is raising donations to acquire Chinese artist Xiaoze Xie’s “Order (The Red Guards)” for its permanent collection. This work will enhance the JSMA’s historic Chinese collection, build cross-cultural connections with international contemporary art and support the teaching and training of UO students.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 10, 2013) – “By Way of These Eyes: The Hyland Collection of Photography” opens at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon on Saturday, September 28. The exhibition, on view through Sunday, December 29, presents more than 100 photographs drawn from the collection of Christopher Hyland, president of one of the world’s leading firms specializing in luxury residential fabrics and founder of the digital lifestyle magazine “HYLAND.”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 9, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art hosts a free, outdoor screening of Jean-François Laguionie’s animated film “The Painting,” on Wednesday, July 24, at 8:30 p.m. Shown in the University of Oregon’s Memorial Quad, outside the museum’s front entrance, this screening features the English version of the family-friendly French film. Free non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (June 13, 2013) “Celebrating Oregon Artists: Recent Additions to the Collection” is on view June 18 – September 15, 2013, in the Artist Project Space at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Featured in the exhibition are works acquired in the past five years by artists working in Ashland, Eugene, Newport, and Portland.
New Acquisitions on view as part of Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s 80th Anniversary Celebration
EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 23, 2013) Artwork acquired by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in the past five years will be on display throughout the museum’s galleries during its 80th anniversary celebration. On view beginning June 1, these new acquisitions will be identified with a red JSMA @ 80 symbol.
The celebration of the museum’s 80th birthday begins with a free, public reception on Friday, May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. A members-only reception will be held 5-6 p.m.

On view June 1 – September 1 in the Coeta and Donald Barker Changing Exhibitions Gallery, as well as other gallery spaces, the exhibition is accompanied by the museum’s first online catalog.

The Black Maria Film and Video Festival returns to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
EUGENE, Ore. – (April 26, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s monthly Schnitzer Cinema brings back The Black Maria Film and Video Festival on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. A live Skype conversation with festival director John Columbus is part of the evening. Cosponsored with the Cinema Pacific film festival, Schnitzer Cinema is the JSMA's monthly showcase for adventurous cinema and media art. Schnitzer Cinema screenings are free, and refreshments are provided by the Museum.
