Contemporary Artist Ryo Toyonaga’s First Museum Retrospective Opens this Fall at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 16, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Ryo Toyonaga: Awakening,” the first major museum exhibition of the New York City-based contemporary artist. On view from October 11, 2014, to January 4, 2015, the exhibition surveys twenty years of ceramic and mixed-media sculpture, drawing and painting.

Work by British artist John Piper on View at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (June 24, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents two bodies of work by British artist John Piper (1903-92), one of many prominent artists who used the silkscreen printing process made popular by the Pop Art movement. ”John Piper: Eye and Camera & Travel Notes” is on view in the MacKinnon Gallery of European Art through October 12.

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Offers Free Admission to Military Personnel and Their Families this Summer

The JSMA is one of more than 2,000 museums across the United States to participate in the Blue Star Museums Program

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 21, 2014) –The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will offer free admission to all active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, and their families from Memorial Day until Labor Day 2014, as part of the Blue Star Museum program.

The Black Maria Film and Video Festival returns to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. – (May 6, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s monthly Schnitzer Cinema brings back The Black Maria Film and Video Festival on Wednesday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m. A phone introduction with festival director John Columbus begins the evening. Cosponsored with the Cinema Pacific film festival, Schnitzer Cinema is the JSMA's monthly showcase for adventurous cinema and media art. Schnitzer Cinema screenings are free and include popcorn and soda.

Two video installations by Portland-based artist Vanessa Renwick on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Renwick is known for her installations that combine video and sculpture and create a unique viewing experience for visitors

EUGENE, Ore. -- (April 15, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, in conjunction with Cinema Pacific, presents “Hunting Requires Optimism” and “Medusa Smack,” two video installations by Portland-based artist Vanessa Renwick. On view from April 25 to June 29, 2014, and made possible by a JSMA Academic Support Grant, Renwick’s installations address serious issues related to our environment in often humorous ways.
