Retrospective Exhibition of the Art of Su Kwak Makes West Coast Debut at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 6, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents the West Coast premiere of “Light Journey: An Odyssey in Paint,” a retrospective exhibition of the art of Su Kwak. Organized by the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University and curated by Dr. Jungsil Lee, “Light Journey” is on view May 28-July 28, 2013 in the JSMA’s Focus Gallery.
Betty and the Boy kick off a new season Museum After Hours
EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 3, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s music series Museum After Hours features a concert by Betty and the Boy on Friday, May 10 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and free for JSMA members.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (April 24, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art presents a special exhibition of nearly twenty experimental Op (Optical) art color aquatints and lithographs by the influential Italian artist Piero Dorazio (1927-2005). Dorazio co-founded the important group of Italian abstract artists, “Forma 1,” in 1947 and published one of the first books on international modern art to appear in Italy, “La Fantasia Dell-Arte Nella Vita Moderna,” in 1955. The exhibition is on view in the MacKinnon Gallery of European Art until July 21.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Celebrates 80 Year Anniversary with New Exhibitions and Installations

The media installations are held in conjunction with the 4th Annual Cinema Pacific Film Festival
EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 25, 2013) – In conjunction with the fourth annual Cinema Pacific film festival (April 17-21, 2013), the JSMA and the University of Oregon in Portland’s White Box will feature media installations by noted Singaporean artist Ming Wong. The dual venue exhibition, “Emotion Pictures,” includes a live Skype performance with Wong on Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m. in Eugene and Portland.
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Now Accepting Applications for Tour Guides
EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 18, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is now accepting applications for participants in its Exhibition Interpreter Program. Volunteers lead interactive tours exploring the museum’s collection and exhibitions, help visitors during Family Days, and assist with outreach events and other education program offerings.
Successful Exhibition Interpreters are enthusiastic, flexible in their available hours, and able to work with visitors to encourage interactive discovery.
Pacific Northwest Painter Morris Graves is celebrated with a new book, exhibitions and events
EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 14, 2013) – A weekend of Morris Graves programming in conjunction with the publication of “Morris Graves: Selected Letters” takes place April 5 – 6, 2013. The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s Annual K-12 exhibition, “New Art Northwest Kids, Returns for Its Sixth Year
EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 6, 2013) – Language Arts is the theme for the Sixth Annual “New Art Northwest Kids” exhibition, on view through June 2, 2013 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. More than 40 works submitted by area K-12 students will be on view in the Education Corridor Galleries.
Julie Green’s “The Last Supper “depicts the final meals of death row inmates
EUGENE, Ore. -- (February 26, 2013) – In conjunction with a series of city-wide events and the Eugene Opera’s production of “Dead Man Walking,” the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art displays Corvallis-based artist Julie Green’s “The Last Supper,” a selection of some 500 porcelain painted plates that illustrate the final meal requests of U.S. death row inmates. The exhibition will be on view March 1 – April 7, 2013 in the Artist Project Space Gallery.
Green will give an Artist’s Talk on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m.
“The Haight Ashbury Quartet” and other documentaries by Eugene artist Loren Sears featured at Schnitzer Cinema
EUGENE, Ore. -- (February 19, 2013) – Eugene-raised film and video artist Loren Sears showcases his poetic documentaries “The Haight Ashbury Quartet” and “The Pacific Lake” on March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Schnitzer Cinema screenings are free and include free popcorn and soda.
“The Haight Ashbury Quartet” is comprised of four short 16mm films that date from 1967 to 1971 and that utilize experimental techniques of superimposition and optical printing to portray private and communal life in San Francisco.
