Schnitzer Cinema Presents Harry Smith’s “Heaven and Earth Magic” with a Live Projection Performance by Dennis Nybeck
EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 24, 2014) – On Wednesday, November 5, 2014, Schnitzer Cinema presents a live projection by Dennis Nyback of Harry Smith’s “Heaven and Earth Magic.” The performance begins at 7 p.m. at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus and includes free popcorn and refreshments.
The 2014-15 season of the Schnitzer Cinema, curated by Cinema Pacific director Richard Herskowitz, is devoted to American experimental media, with a special emphasis on the history of American avant-garde film.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (October 16, 2014) –The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s “Art of the Athlete” exhibition returns for a third year featuring work created by UO student athletes from participating in football, cheerleading, acro/tumbling, women’s soccer, and men’s basketball. The exhibition remains on view through January 25, 2015. The public is invited to a free reception on Wednesday, October 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 18, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Ryo Toyonaga: Awakening,” the first major museum exhibition of the New York City-based contemporary artist. On view from October 11, 2014, to January 4, 2015, the exhibition surveys twenty years of ceramic and mixed-media sculpture, drawing, and painting and is accompanied by a series of programs.

The exhibition features icons and three-dimensional objects drawn from the JSMA’s permanent collection.

Annual “Art in the Attic” Fundraiser Returns to Oakway Center Heritage Courtyard
EUGENE, Ore. -- (August 11, 2014) – “Art in the Attic,” an annual fundraiser for the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, returns to the Oakway Center Heritage Courtyard on Wednesday, August 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Art and décor from homes throughout the community will be on sale with all proceeds benefiting the JSMA’s enriching educational programs.
Organized by the Gourmet Group, a volunteer group that has been fundraising for the JSMA for more than 40 years, Art in the Attic gives the community an opportunity to buy previously owned treasures at great prices.

Philip K. Piele Elected New President of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Leadership Council
EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 22, 2014) – Eugene resident Philip K. Piele will serve a two-year term as the new Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Leadership Council President beginning July 2014. Piele has been an active member of the JSMA Leadership Council since 2012 and brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for arts to the position.
