Animal Tales is the Theme for a Fun-Filled Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

Art activities, performances, and adoptable pets from Greenhill Humane Society included in the day

EUGENE, Ore. -- (April 24, 2014) – Families are invited to a day of animals, art making and performances at “Animal Tales,” a free family day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on Saturday, May 3 from noon to 3 p.m.

Sponsored by Kendall Auto Group, the day includes adoptable pets from Greenhill Humane Society and First Avenue Shelter, performances by Ballet Fantastique and the JSMA Dragon Puppet Theatre, and art activities for all ages. Art activities are inspired by the museum’s collection and special exhibitions, including “The Human Touch: Selections from the RBC Wealth Management Art Collection," and will include making portraits of animals in the style of contemporary artists.

A family-friendly guided tour starts at 2:15 p.m., and families can also explore the galleries on their own with the JSMA’s ArtPacks. Sponsored by Bank of America, the bilingual (English and Spanish) ArtPacks offer families an interactive way to take self-guided tours of the museum, complete with guided questions, sensory experiences, and audio.

Family Day starts at 11 a.m. with a reception honoring the artists in the 7th Annual “NewArt Northwest Kids” juried exhibitions. This year’s entries address the theme Food for Thought and the artists are from K-12 schools across the state. “NewArt Northwest – Kids” is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Cheryl and Allyn Ford Educational Outreach Endowment and Dr. Michael Balm and Dee Carlson.
