NewArt Northwest Kids: Brave Spaces

March 16, 2022 to May 22, 2022

This year marks the 14th annual NewArt Northwest Kids exhibition. This year’s theme, Brave Spaces, encouraged students to share their personal stories of bravery that help define who they are, and stories of bravery they saw or imagined. The works of art reveal the resilience of each student and the bravery they witness every day.

Teachers from across the region and state integrated art into their online classrooms, and students were creative in their interpretations of the theme. This year’s body of work—30 pieces, juried from over 18 schools—were created by K–12 students in homeschools, private, and public schools from Eugene, Springfield, Glide, Dorena, and Florence.

The artwork is on display in the lower hallways through May 22, 2022.

Geologic Empathy and Quantum Curiosity

Artist Nina Elder travels to some of the most environmentally impacted, geographically distant, and economically important places on the globe where she researches how the natural environment is changing through human-centered activities. This performative lecture weaves together unlikely associations between piles of rocks, military secrets, glaciers, stolen meteorites, frayed ropes, and the need for curiosity.
