The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art hosts free outdoor screening of “Coco”

The family-friendly film will be preceded with art activities and a reception for the artists visiting for the 20x21EUG Mural Project

EUGENE, Ore. -- (June 25, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art’s Family Outdoor Film program returns this summer with Disney/Pixar’s “Coco” on Wednesday, August 1, at 8:45 p.m. at the University of Oregon Memorial Quad – in front of the museum. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family, and friends.

MELLON POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR AND THREE MELLON FACULTY FELLOWS APPOINTED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON TO ADVANCE MUSEUM AND LIBRARY RESEARCH COLLABORATION

Eugene, Oregon (June 6, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA) and University of Oregon (UO) Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Kreiger as the new Mellon Postdoctoral Scholar, the first joint position of the JSMA and UO Libraries. Kreiger’s position is funded by a grant awarded to the University of Oregon by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

New Exhibition Highlights Contemporary British Artist Glenn Brown

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 25, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon will showcase eight works by contemporary master Glenn Brown in a new exhibition “Transmutations/Glenn Brown: What’s Old is New Again.” On view in the MacKinnon Gallery of European Art through August 19, 2018, the exhitbion marks the first time the JSMA has collaborated closely with Masterworks lenders to showcase the work of a single artist.

Museum Roles in Challenging Time is the Focus of Four Talks at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 8, 2018) – This spring, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon will host a special series of lectures by museum directors titled “Museum Roles in Challenging Times.”

“The role of both academic and public museums changes in response to the needs of society,” says JSMA Executive Director Jill Hartz. “We’ve invited four museum directors to reflect on that role in terms of their own institutions and the field at large.”

Public Programs Discuss the Work of Ai Weiwei in the Final Month of “Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads” that is on view at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 11, 2018) – Ai Weiwei, one of China’s most prolific and provocative contemporary artists, will be the subject of two public programs hosted by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon this spring. The programs are held in conjunction with Ai’s “Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads” sculptures, which are on view in the JSMA’s North Courtyard through June 24, 2018.

Eugene, Ore. --- (March 8, 2018) --- The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, continues this year’s Schnitzer Cinema film series on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. with “Acts and Intermissions,” featuring a Skype Q&A with director Abigail Child. This documentary explores the resurgence of protest in the 21st century through a refracted observation of the life and works of anarchist revolutionary Emma Goldman. Schnitzer Cinema is programmed by Richard Herskowitz, JSMA curator of media arts. The program is free and includes refreshments.

Explore Art Using Five Senses at the Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 9, 2018) - The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Exploring Art Through the Senses” on Saturday, May 19, from noon to 3 p.m. This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and each activity will highlight one of the five senses.

“Louis Kahn’s Tiger City” featuring filmmaker Sundaram Tagore opens the 2018 Winter Season of Schnitzer Cinema

EUGENE, Ore. – (February 2, 2018) - Sundaram Tagore’s feature-length documentary “Louis Kahn’s Tiger City” opens the winter season of Schnitzer Cinema on Thursday, February 22, at 7 p.m.. Hosted by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus, Schnitzer Cinema is curated by Richard Herskowitz, JSMA Curator of Media Arts and includes free refreshments.
