An Exhibition on Cuban Revolutionary Photography opens at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 12, 2019) – “Korda y el espíritu de la Revolución Cubana (Korda and the Spirit of the Cuban Revolution),” a new exhibition by internationally renowned photographer Alberto Fernando Díaz Gutiérrez, better known as Alberto Korda, or simply Korda (1928-2001) is on view at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Featuring a selection of some of the most iconic images that symbolize the ideals of the Cuban Revolution, the exhibition is on view through Sunday, July 21, 2019.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 1, 2019) – The annual “NewArt Northwest Kids” exhibition returns to the Jordan Schintzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus for its twelfth year. This year’s theme, “Protecting the Northwest’s Natural Beauty,” examines the roles people have in caring for the environment and recognizing the collective responsibility to preserve the quality and safekeeping of the land, air, water, plants, and animals.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (February 21, 2019) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, continues this year’s Schnitzer Cinema film series on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m., with “The Gospel of Eureka,” presented by directors Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher. The documentary takes viewers into the world of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where Christians and drag queens share the spotlight.

A Half Century of Peruvian Photography Explores a City and a Culture at the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (February 14, 2019) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, explores Peru with a new exhibition “Qosqo, entre el pasado y el presente: Photography in Cusco 1895-1945.” Featuring the works of nine photographers, who lived in the Cusco region, the exhibition offers a portrait of a city and a culture at the dawn of the modern era. On view from February 16 to May 19, 2019, the exhibition was co-curated by Adelma Benavente García and Peter Yenne, founders of the Photographic Archive Project.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (January 31, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, located on the University of Oregon campus, continues this year’s Schnitzer Cinema film series on Wednesday, February 13 at 7 p.m., with “Mr. Fish: Cartooning From the Deep End” featuring guest cartoonist Mr. Fish via Skype. This documentary follows the creative and financial struggles of Mr. Fish, a political cartoonist whose work may be too subversive for our times.

Collaborative Exhibition that explores the excellence of Oregon Artists opens at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (December 31, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon presents “Visual Magic: An Oregon Invitational,” from January 19 to May 12, 2019. A collaboration with the George D. Green Art Institute, the exhibition features recent work by forty-five artists who began their careers in Oregon during the 1960s and 70s. The public is invited to a free preview on Friday, January 18, from 7 to 8 p.m.

This Holiday Season, Bring the Outdoors Inside at a Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 26, 2018) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Bringing the Outdoors Inside” on Saturday, December 8, from noon to 3 p.m. on the University of Oregon campus. This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and will be inspired by the current exhibitions on view, including “Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Aesthetics, Materials.”

The University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is a premier Pacific Northwest museum for exhibitions and collections of historic and contemporary art. The mission of the museum is to enhance the University of Oregon’s academic mission and to further the appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts for the general public. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens. Free admission is given to ages 18 and under, JSMA members, college students with ID, and University of Oregon faculty, staff and students.
