Decompress with Art: Exploring Synesthesia

6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

Join us for a monthly Art Heals program exclusively for students from University of Oregon and Lane Community College. Workshop materials and themes will change monthly throughout the term. In April’s hour and fifteen-minute-long workshop, Teaching Artist Emily McAllister will provide a brief description of Synesthesia a neurological phenomenon where musical stimulation can result in a person seeing colors. Emily McAllister will lead participants through a sound study where they will respond to music through color and shape exploration. Participants will then be invited to create their own paintings inspired by the music of Jean Sibelius and the paintings of Charles Burchfield. Light refreshments, as well as all artists materials will be provided. The program is free, but pre-registration is required. 24 spots available. Please email artheals@uoregon.edu to reserve a spot. You will receive a confirmation from a JSMA museum staff member.
