Kitchen Table Talk
Presented as part of artist Steve Prince’s multi-visit residency with his partner and collaborator Leah Glenn, Kitchen Table Talk presents a selection of drawings, prints, and installation that reflect on the conversations that occur around the kitchen table.
Steve Prince is a New Orleans-born mixed-media artist currently based in Williamsburg, Virginia. Equal parts artist and educator, his practice is defined by a deep commitment to art’s ability to engage, build, and connect with communities, while also engaging themes of social justice, reconciliation, and healing. Prince situates the kitchen table as an intimate forum for communication and connection, as well as a site of miscommunication and silence, where relationships can be reaffirmed or broken, secrets shared or kept hidden. By inviting the visitor to literally take a seat at a custom-built table, Prince provides a space to reflect on our connections with other people, our communities, and what is said, or left unsaid.
This exhibition is co-sponsored by the JSMA, the UO School of Music and Dance, and the UO Art Department. It was curated by the artist, Steve Prince, with curatorial assistance from Alexis Garcia, Post-Graduate Museum Fellow in European & American Art, 2023-2025.
