Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Hosts Free Outdoor Screening of the Academy Award-Nominated “Song of the Sea”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 16, 2015) –  The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites you to a free outdoor screening of the hand-drawn animated film “Song of the Sea” (2014, Ireland/Luxembourg/ Belgium/France/Denmark, 93 minutes) at the University of Oregon Memorial Quad on Wednesday, August 5, at 8:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends! Free non-alcoholic beverages will be provided!

An Academy Award-nominated film based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, “Song of the Sea” tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey to save the world of magic and discover the secrets of their past. Pursued by the owl witch Macha and a host of ancient and mythical creatures, Saoirse and Ben race against time to awaken Saoirse’s powers and keep the spirit world from disappearing forever. As enthralling for adults as it is for children young and old, “Song of the Sea” is a wonder of magical storytelling and visual splendor that is destined to become a classic.

In the event of rain, the program will be moved inside the museum.

Cosponsored by the Cinema Studies, the UO Folklore Program and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute & Summer Session.
