Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Accepting Applications for Tour Guides

Multilingual speakers are encouraged to join the volunteer program

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 27, 2014) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is now accepting applicants for the Exhibition Interpreter (tour guide) Program. Volunteers lead interactive tours exploring the museum’s collection and exhibitions, help visitors during Family Days, and assist with outreach events and other education program offerings.

Successful Exhibition Interpreters are enthusiastic, flexible in their available hours, and able to work with visitors to encourage interactive discovery. The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is an institution committed to diversity and multilingual speakers are encouraged to join.

Before working with visitors, volunteers will participate in a ten-month training program to learn about Visual Thinking Strategies, the Museum's collections, elements of art history, and other aspects of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Prior experience in the arts and humanities is not required. After training is completed, docents give an average of 3 tours a month during the year and attend program sessions three times a month between September and June.

To download an application, visit http://jsma.uoregon.edu/exhibition-interpreters. To receive an application form by mail, interested individuals should call the Education Hotline at 541-346-0910 and leave their name, address, and phone number. Applications must be submitted by June 27, 2014.
