Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art explores photography through “Portraits, People and Places"

This free family-friendly event is sponsored by U.S. Bancorp Foundation.

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 25, 2013) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites children and families to explore the art of photography at a free family day, “Portraits, People and Places,” on Saturday, December 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free day of fun-filled art activities is sponsored by U.S. Bancorp Foundation.

Inspired by the exhibition “National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West,” this event includes hands-on art activities, tours of current exhibitions and performances by Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestra and JSMA Dragon Puppet Theatre.

Children can engage with the art in our galleries by creating art of their own inspired by photographic portraits, photo collages, holiday cards, and upcycled projector slides! “Family Day is a day of viewing and creating art and exploring all that the JSMA has to offer,” says Arthurina Fears, JSMA’s newest educator. “This is a great time for families to participate together.”

At 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. , JSMA staff will offer a museum tour of our current exhibitions and from 11a.m. to 3p.m. the art studio will be open for free art activities.  At 12:30 p.m., the Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras will perform and at 1:30 p.m. the JSMA’s Dragon Puppet Theatre will perform.
