Teams of 3-5 people are encouraged to submit proposals for inflatables for the March First Friday ArtWalk
EUGENE, Ore. -- (January 10, 2013) – In conjunction with the exhibition “West of Center: Art and the Counterculture Experiment in America, 1965-1977,” the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and Master Capital Management are organizing Eugene’s First Incredible Inflato-Contest. Teams of three to five people are asked to submit an inflatable proposal that will presented in poster form at the “West of Center” opening reception on Friday, February 8, from 6- to p.m. Proposals are due February 1, 2013.
Four teams will be selected as finalists and be supplied with basic materials to bring their inflatable to life at the Lane Arts Council’s First Friday Art Walk on March 1, 2013. After a public vote, the winning team will be announced at the museum on Sunday, March 3. The winning team will receive a cash prize.

Eugene’s First Incredible Inflato-contest is inspired by the experimental architecture collective Ant Farm. Founded in San Francisco in 1968, Ant Farm created inflatable environments at numerous happenings, schools, conferences, and festivals, notably the Rolling Stones’ free concert at Altamont. Traveling the country throughout the 1970s, Ant Farm distributed their “Inflatocookbook” teaching architectural skills ad hoc to democratize the institution of architecture.
Due February 1, each proposal must be accompanied by a proposal form; a poster, approximately 36” x 24” of the proposal, including1 drawing of the proposed inflatable, 1 full view, 1 detail showing entrance, 1 detail showing attachment to a fan, and any details showing decorative designs, projections or other descriptions specific to your inflatable. Teams are encouraged to embellish inflatables with sound, video, texture, and scent. The inflatables must fit within a floor space that is 15 x 13 ft.
