Craig Einhorn Biography

Craig Einhorn was born (1965) and raised in Yonkers, New York. At age eleven he began playing his friend’s guitar in summer camp. Upon his return home in late August he begged his parents to buy him a guitar. Craig borrowed a guitar from a cousin and several months later his parents bought him a guitar after seeing his love for the instrument. Craig’s early training consisted of encounters with older Blues, Rock and Folk musicians in his neighborhood.

Once in College, at age eighteen, Craig discovered classical guitar. He intended to study sound recording technology but the classical guitar became his focus for years to come. After earning his Bachelor of Music Performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1987, Craig received a full scholarship to the Arizona State University School of Music. At Arizona State Craig was chosen as a graduate assistant in Modern Dance Accompaniment for the Arizona State University Dance Department. Craig played guitar, piano and percussion for numerous Modern Dance classes and for visiting artists and was later hired as a staff accompanist. It was during his time as staff that he once accompanied a class for Katherine Dunham (1909-2006), pioneer of Modern Dance. Craig completed his Masters in Classical Guitar Performance at Arizona State in 1989. From 1988 to 1996 Craig taught Music Theory, Electronic Music, Music History, History of Jazz, and History of Rock and Roll at several Community Colleges in the Phoenix area. During the same years Craig performed Classical Guitar extensively in Arizona and recorded his own music. His first CD, “In With the Old, In With the New” released in 1995, was used by Barbara Walters on national television on several programs.

In 1996 Craig moved to Eugene Oregon and was hired to teach Classical Guitar at Lane Community College. After Craig’s guest performance, in a faculty concert at the University of Oregon in 1998, Grammy winner Mason Williams introduced himself. A friendship and collaboration ensued which led to the release of his second CD,  “Obras with special guest Mason Williams,” in 2000. From 1996 to 2009 Craig has performed as soloist and with his trio at numerous festivals including the Eugene Celebration, Fiesta Latina, The Salem World Beat Festival, and has also performed concerts in California, Washington, New York, Tennessee, Hawaii and Florida. He has performed as soloist with various orchestras including the Oregon Mozart Players, The Port Angeles Symphony, the Salem Pops Orchestra and the Oregon State University Orchestra. Craig released a CD of Brazilian and Argentine instrumentals entitled “Choros” in 2005 and a CD of original and popular songs he sings called “Something Real,” released in 2007.

In 2009 Craig visited Argentina to improve his Spanish and tango dancing. After meeting and dating Diana Taborda Garcia, a surgical nurse, he decided to stay for more than a year and a half and they married in Eugene, Oregon in November 2010. While in Argentina Craig performed a concert at the Centro Cultural Rigolleau, in Berazategui, and performed and was interviewed in Spanish live on radio at “La Tribu” 88.7 FM in Buenos Aires. His latest CD, entitled “Con los Porteños” released in May of 2012, was recorded in Buenos Aires, consists of Latin songs which Craig sings in Spanish accompanied by seven magnificent Argentine musicians.
