Patricia Dewey Lambert, Professor, School of Planning, Public Policy and Management, University of Oregon; Doug Blandy, Professor Emeritus, School of Planning, Public Policy and Management, University of Oregon; and appearing over Zoom, Margaret Wyszomirski, Professor Emerita, Department of Art Administration, Education and Policy, Ohio State University, discuss their new book Arts in Healthy Aging (Oxford University Press 2024) is a comprehensive study of why and how purposefully-designed programs that engage the visual, performing, and literary arts can support the health and well-being of older adults.

Building on decades of published research, government documents, and program models, the book provides historical perspectives, new theoretical approaches, analytical models, resources for researchers and practitioners, and pathways forward for advancing the interdisciplinary arts in healthy aging field of scholarship and practice. In this presentation, two co-authors of the book will offer main findings from the research, ideas for activating America’s arts in healthy aging ecosystem at the national level, and recommendations for activating our 8Ps Framework for the Arts in Healthy Aging.
