Building Community Through Movement: Workshop with Leah Glenn

Sat, 02/24/2024 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Free, but RSVPs are required. Space is limited to 30 participants. All ages are welcome.

In this 2-hour creative movement workshop, the community will engage with dancer/choreographer Leah Glenn, Professor at William & Mary and Director of the Leah Glenn Dance Theater. Ms. Glenn has performed nationally and internationally, including the Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Her work has been featured in the International Association for Blacks in Dance conferences, and many other community-based theaters and universities. Her work focuses on cultivating a greater understanding of the world in which we live through thought-provoking works of art that inspire and challenge audiences and participants. This is a rare opportunity to have a world class artist teach in the Eugene community. Her focus will be on empathy as a concept to explore through movement. This workshop will explore the ways in which movement may be used as a means of communication. We will also engage in exercises that address its ability to inform, heal, validate, and express who we are individually as well as collectively. Funding provided from University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Art Heals Initiative and Tykeson Family Foundation. No prior dance experience needed.

No art experience is required and is open to all in the community. Please RSVP here: https://forms.gle/WRbHvE1aFZcx4Z1x8
