Artist talk: Malia Jensen

Sun, 03/05/2023 - 2:00pm

Join featured artist Malia Jensen for a talk about her work Worth Your Salt (Nearer Nature Project), currently on view in the JSMA’s Common Seeing exhibition Our Shared Breath: Creativity and Community.

I often think of art-making as a way to both create and examine relationships. Worth Your Salt relied on many kinds of relationship-construction, including the wildlife drawn into collaboration by the carved salt-lick sculptures and the many people who got involved with the project as I staged the sculptures and camera-traps across Oregon. Using this project as a starting point, I’ll share a selection of images and previous work and discuss artworks as shape-shifting containers for a multiplicity of stories and narratives.

This program was made possible with support provided by the Art Dealers Association of America Foundation.
