Free Family Day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art focuses on Celebrations around the World

EUGENE, Ore. -- (November 15, 2017) - The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites families to spend a day at the museum enjoying free activities at “Celebrations Around the World” on Saturday, December 9, from noon to 3 p.m. on the University of Oregon campus.  This free family day will be filled with art activities for children of all ages and will be inspired by celebrations and artistic traditions from around the world.

“We invite families to join us for a day of creating art, enjoying performances and exploring the museum's galleries,” say Hannah Bastian, JSMA Manager of Museum education Programs. “This event will welcome the upcoming season by highlighting winter celebrations around the world.”

Art making activities include Nengajō (New Year Zodiac cards), Dancing Dragons, and woven bookmarks. Guests are also invited to create piñatas with Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art staff and volunteers. Parked on the north side of JSMA between the museum and Chapman Hall, will be Imagination International’s Artie the Art Bus, where families can create additional art activities.

Performances throughout the day include storytelling with Cynthia Olsen from the Eugene Public Library, a puppet performance by the JSMA Dragon Puppet Theatre, and a musical performance by the Woodburn High School Mariachi Band. A family-friendly museum tour is offered in English and Spanish.

Family Day: Celebrations Around the World is sponsored by Friends of the JSMA, The Cheryl and Allyn Ford Educational Outreach Endowment, Imagination International Inc., and Centro Latino Americano.
