JSMA Art Camp 2023

The JSMA offers a variety of summer camps for young artists. Each week concludes with an art exhibition that families can attend!                  

Tuition per camp: $225 ($200 for JSMA Members/UO)

STEAM: Design Thinking
June 26 - 30
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Ages 11 - 14

Create, make, and innovate! Students can take their artwork to the next level by investigating the science behind making art. Create artwork inspired by the environment and people around you while learning art techniques like lighting, illustration, watercolor, and various other art forms. Investigate a variety of art materials, including found objects, to create shadow boxes, sculptures, and collage in this mixed-media exploration of art.

Explore East Asia: Korea, Japan, China
July 10 - 14
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Ages 6 - 11

Learn about the art, culture, and stories of China, Korea, and Japan through various art activities that are unique to each culture. This year, we will have a strong focus on Korean culture. Travel through time this week to discover and create works of art ranging from calligraphy to exploring traditional stories and games. Travel around all three countries using art from the JSMA collection as your tour guide!

Design, Build, Go!: Understanding Buildings
July 17 - 21
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Ages 6 - 11

Design buildings and monuments in this hands-on exploration of architecture. Gain experience drawing, designing, and building with natural objects and recycled materials. Discover the creative possibilities you can make from LEGO blocks! Explore using LEGOs as an art tool and construct cityscapes, sculptures, mosaics, and more inspired by the museum’s collection.

Art Exploration Camp for Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth
July 24-28
1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Ages 11-14 / Grades 6-8

Create art in new and familiar mediums as a form of self-expression and explore the visual arts in the galleries of the JSMA in the week-long art workshop for transgender and gender diverse youth in grades 6-8. This week is supported by members of the transgender and gender diverse community of artists, educators, students and allies with an intention of creating a welcoming space for budding artists to learn about viewing art as a method of self-reflection and creating art as a form or self-expression.

Tuition for Art Exploration Camp is $200. Please submit scholarship applications for this camp to Sherri Jones, Assist. Administrator at sdjones@uoregon.edu
