Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Hosts Free Outdoor Screening of the Academy Award Nominated “Ernest & Celestine”

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 24, 2014) –  The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art invites you to a free outdoor screening of the  animated film “Ernest & Celestine” (2013, France, 80 minutes, English version) at the University of Oregon Memorial Quad on Wednesday, August 13, at 8:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends! Free refreshments will be provided.

Based on the classic Belgian book series by Gabrielle Vincent, “Ernest & Celestine” won France's César Award for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards. “Ernest & Celestine” follows the development of an unusual friendship between a mouse and a bear.

Deep below snowy, cobblestone streets, tucked away in networks of winding subterranean tunnels, lives a civilization of hardworking mice, terrified of the bears that live above ground. Unlike her fellow mice, Celestine is an artist and a dreamer – and when she nearly ends up as breakfast for ursine troubadour Ernest, the two form an unlikely bond. But it isn't long before their friendship is put on trial by their respective bear-fearing and mice-eating communities. Beautifully animated with a charming cast of creatures “Ernest & Celestine” is sure to be a family favorite.

Cosponsored by the Department of Romance Languages, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Summer Session, and Cinema Studies.
