UPCOMING EXHIBITION OPENING

Join us on Wednesday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m. for the opening reception of three exciting exhibitions that launch the JSMA’s 75th Anniversary year:“Faster, Higher, Farther: The Spirit of Track and Field Sports,” on view June 14 through September 1; “Edward Burtynsky: The China Series,” on view June 26 through September 7; “The Thinking Body,” on view June 26 through September 7. GALLERY CHANGES

In anticipation of the JSMA’s 75th Anniversary year, our galleries will be going through some changes.  Many objects of our collections, and works on loan, are regularly rotated.  The rotations are planned in an effort to conserve historic works and also to offer opportunities to view different objects from our collections.  Some upcoming changes will include:

“Holy Icons of Russia” exhibition in the McKenzie Gallery. The last day to view artwork in this installation, until January 2009, is June 1, 2008.

"OPEN/END MFA 2008" exhibit in the Coeta and Donald Barker Gallery.  The last day to view this exhibition is June 15, 2008

Object rotations are planned for the exhibits in the Soreng Gallery, Preble-Murphy Gallery and Jin Joo Gallery in the Huh Wing.

CURRENTLY ON VIEW

“OPEN/END MFA 2008,” an exhibition of the work of twelve MFA students. May 3 through June 15. “OPEN/END MFA 2008” is a collaborative exhibition by the Department of Art, School of Architecture and Allied Arts and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

Late 19th Century French Paintings including works by Renoir, Cézanne, Pissaro and more, on view through June 8

Buddhist Robes, “From Rags to Riches,” Now through June 8

“Elizabeth Keith in Korea,” ongoing

MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Annual Meeting of the Members

Friday, June 20, 4:00 p.m.

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art cordially invites JSMA members to the annual meeting of the members.  Doors open at 4:00 p.m. with the formal business meeting beginning at 4:30 p.m.  Join in a social hour, following the meeting, to celebrate the beginning of the JSMA’s 75th Anniversary year and have a chance to meet the recently announced Executive Director, Jill Hartz. MFA Talks

Master of Fine Arts candidates from the UO Department of Art, Shelley Socolofsky (Fibers), Chang-Ae Song (Painting), Charity Warren (Digital Art), and Alvi Lufiani (Metalsmithing), speak on their work in the MFA 2008 exhibition.

Discover what’s inside at the JSMA with free admission the first Friday of every month!

Saturday, June 7, 1:00 p.m.

First Saturday Public Tour

Explore the museum every month with a forty-five-minute tour led by a JSMA exhibition interpreter.  Tour is free with museum admission.

 

2007-08 Farwest Steel Lecture Series

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is pleased to welcome artist and textile expert,  Jiseon Lee Isbara as the guest presenter for the 2007-08 Farwest Steel Lecture Series. Learn more

SUMMER ART CAMPS

Ages six to thirteen

Monday through Friday

Full day camps – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Half day afternoon camps (weeks 2 and 5 only) – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $195 per child ($175.50 for JSMA members) for full days

$100 ($90 for JSMA members) for half days

All camps culminate with a final exhibition of student work on the last day of camp. Fee includes all art materials and two snacks per day. JSMA members, UO affiliates, and multiple session campers receive a 10% registration discount. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Call (541) 346-6410 for information.
