Encountering the Animal: Lecture and Reading by Alison Hawthorne Deming

From the earliest cave art to the work of Ryo Toyonaga, animals inspire wonder, reflection and invention. Alison Hawthorne Deming will respond to the exhibition Ryo Toyonaga: Awakening and read from her new book Zoologies: On Animals and the Human Spirit. Alison Hawthorne Deming is a winner of the Walt Whitman Award and a former Stegner Fellow. She is the author of eight books of poetry and essays. She teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Arizona and is a board member of Orion magazine. She splits her time between Tucson, Arizona and Grand Manan, New Brunswick. Book signing to follow.
