EUGENE, Ore.- (October 21, 2009)- The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon campus features an exciting new exhibition titled “Amazonia,” featuring photography from the noted National Geographic photographer Sam Abell.  The exhibition will feature more than 50 full-color photographs and commentary by Abell with additional photos and text by the Danish wildlife photographer Torben Ulrik Nissen.

“Amazonia” will be on view in the museum’s Coeta and Donald Barker Gallery from January 17 through May 2, 2010. The exhibition will open with a free preview reception on Saturday, January 16, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m

EUGENE, Ore. – (July 2, 2009) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon opens the special exhibition “Faster Than a Speeding Bullet: The Art of the Superhero.” Featuring rare and valuable works by some of the most admired artists in the history of superhero comics, gathered from private collections from across the country, the exhibition will also present an extremely rare copy of “Action Comics # 1,” featuring the first appearance of Superman. A new program series featuring screenings of rarely seen films begins this fall at the JSMA

EUGENE, Ore. -- (September 29, 2009) – The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art announces a new program, Schnitzer Cinema, an on-going film series held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. this fall.

Schnitzer Cinema will be held on Wednesdays, October 7; November 4; and December 2, 2009. Featuring films related to the exhibition, “Faster Than a Speeding Bullet: The Art of the Superhero,” Schnitzer Cinema will showcase the rarely screened films “Confessions of a Superhero,” “Danger Diabolik,” and “Mister Freedom.” Each film will be preceded by a classic Max Fleischer Superman cartoon and a surprise short subject and an introduction by the curator or guest speaker.

Curated by Richard Herskowitz, film curator from the Houston Cinema Arts Society and faculty with the University of Oregon’s Arts and Administration program, the film series is designed to showcase unique movies that complement the exhibition and give visitors a first-time opportunity to view the films.
