JSMA Summer Art Camp 2017

The JSMA offers a variety of summer camps for the young artist. Each week concludes with an art exhibition that entire family can attend!

Tuition:
Full Day: $300 ($270 for JSMA Members/UO)
Half Day: $150.00 ($135 for JSMA Members/UO)
Aftercare: 12-1 p.m. or 4-5 p.m.  $25.00

Week 1: July 10-14
LEGO Art and Imagination
9 am - noon
Grades 1-5
Discover all the creative possibilities you can make from LEGO blocks! Use LEGOs as an art medium to construct cityscapes, sculptures, mosaics, and more inspired by the museum’s collection.

Make Your Mark! Exploring Drawing in Art
1- 4 pm
Grades 1-5
Learn creative techniques in drawing with the basic elements of art. Experiment with mark making using a fun variety of media and material.

Week 2: July 17- 21
World Building
9 am - noon
Grades 6-8
Create a world of your imagination! Develop your world through performing arts, comics, anime, maps, games, fantasy, and science fiction.

Mythological Creatures
1- 4 pm
Grades 6-8
The creatures of your dreams come to life! Use a variety of visual art mediums, writing and drama to make these creatures a reality.

Week 3: July 24- 28
Arte Folclórico Fantástico (Inmersión en el Idioma Español)
9 am- noon
Grades 1-5; Apprentice Level Grades 6-8
Aprende sobre el arte folclórico, explora objetos de Latinoamérica y crea pinturas en papel amate, esculturas, textiles, y más. Esta clase se enseñará mayormente en español.
Learn about folk art, explore objects from Latin America and create amate paper, sculpture, textiles, and more. This class will be taught mostly in Spanish.

Bricks, Blocks, and Pixels
1- 4 pm
Grades 1-5; Apprentice Level Grades 6-8
Minecraft provides the inspiration to create 2D and 3D art using LEGOS and the simple forms found in the popular video games.

Week 4: July 31- August 4
Art and Architecture
9 am - noon
Grades 1-5; Apprentice Level Grades 6-8
Design buildings and monuments in this hands-on exploration of architecture. Gain experience drawing, designing, and building with natural objects and recycled materials.

LEGO Art and Imagination

Grades 1-5; Apprentice Level Grades 6-8

Week 5: August 7- 11
Passport Around the World
9 am- noon
Grades 1-5
Travel around the world using art from the JSMA collection as your tour guide! Along the way, create art souvenirs to document your journey.

Stop Motion and Cartoon Animation
1 - 4 pm
Grades 1-5
Create your own animated feature and explore Claymation and paper animation. Each student will learn how to design and create fun special effects in this interactive camp.

Week 6: August 14 -18

Comics and Manga
1-4 pm
Grades 1-5
Explore the many aspects of comic book art and manga as you learn how to tell stories through comic strips and other graphic illustrations.

Animals in Art

Grades 1-5
Discover animals in art! Use the museum’s collection as inspiration to construct sculptures, textiles, costumes, papier-maché, and more.
